The Curious Case of Tommy Udo

welcome to Sundae Matinee, a sprinkling of sweet stuff

greetings!

Long time, no see and all that jazz.

It was not my plan to stay away from all of you for this length of time, but all I can say is… I have been busy!

Let’s recap.

September

Started off with a trip with my new pal, Cara to see our favorite monster friends at the new Universal Studios theme park, Epic Universe.

In order to enter Epic Universe, you have to teleport. It is thrilling!

While visiting Epic Universe, I had the wonderful opportunity to meet Dr. Jack Griffin aka The Invisible Man. For fans of the Universal Monsters, this park is an absolute dream. Not only do you get to meet Monsters and walk through Dr. Frankenstein’s castle, but you also get to drink all liquids from laboratory flasks. If I am ever missing in action, you know where to write.

The Invisible Man and my potion.

After my visit with the monsters, I headed to Austin, Texas to cover the Fantastic Film Festival. I had a great time, saw a slew of films, and most importantly got to test out my new experiment: The Suitcase Scheme

The Traveling Salesman, the Old Sport Rosalie Kicks

The fun did not stop there! Within 48 hours of being home, I headed over to Monster Vegan for MovieJawn’s Fall 2025 zine release party. I was overjoyed with how great the event turned out. We had so much fun celebrating the latest issue featuring, Cinematic Deals with The Devil. Few copies remain and can be purchased here.

October

I kicked off October by attending the Buster Keaton Convention in Muskegon, Michigan with Benjamin and my mother in-law Becky. We had an absolute blast. A highlight for me was having the opportunity to meet Buster Keaton’s granddaughter, Melissa Talmadge Cox. I have a write-up about the fest coming out soon in the Keaton Chronicle which I will share, when it is available.

With all the zipping around I had been doing, October had me feeling like a slug. Just as I was feeling somewhat back to normal, I went and attended my first ever twenty-four hour horrorthon at Colonial Theatre. Fun was had, sleep was not, and well… I paid the price.

I kept trying to get myself in the Halloween spirit, but due to exhaustion, it just never really happened. I did still manage to have some spooky fun, and one of the highlights of the month was attending the Annual Monster Mash at Mahoning Drive-in with my partner in crime, Benjamin. I could not ask for better grave buddy! Who else would want to sling zines as a celebration of our 17th anniversary.

November

Things began to slow down, which has finally given me time to contemplate my next move. I have been saying for a while now that I have deemed 2025 to be my exploratory year. Essentially, this past year has been all about getting out in the field, conducting experiments, trying new things, and figuring out what exactly it is I want to do with my life.

My friends, I am onto something quite extraordinary, and there is going to be some exciting stuff coming your way. Until then, please know that I appreciate you being here and for following along with my adventures. More to come soon.

what’s the latest scoop?

Say Hello to Tommy Udo.

Thanks to one of my movie pals, Abby the Projectionist, I have obtained a new doll friend. Fresh from the attic, I present to you, Tommy Udo.

Tommy Udo in his recovery jammies.

Tommy was in rather rough shape, and clearly had been in a few scrapes. Upon conducting an examination it was found that his head was actually on backwards, his entire body was twisted like a pretzel, and he had an infectious (stab) wound on his back. Due to this, I had to perform an emergency operation. Fortunately! for you, dear readers, with the assistance of Benjamin, I filmed the entire surgical process for you to behold with your eyes.

Witness the miracles and wonders of science here:

Tommy is now in recovery, looking forward to turning over a new leaf, and dedicating his life to teaching manners. He shall begin with cinema etiquette… Stay tuned my friends.

this week i am proud of…

an amazing opportunity

Me at 2025 Nitrate Film Festival

I was asked to serve as the Social Media Correspondent for the 2026 Nitrate Film festival. I am elated for this opportunity. As their Correspondent, I will be responsible for conducting interviews, going behind the scenes, and sharing my experiences. It is going to be fantastic and I can’t wait to share this adventure and escapades with all of you. Shoutout to my ace photographer and cinematographer, Sergio! This would not be possible without you pal.

in case you missed it…

Sergio helped me make a music video with me (Draculelvis) and the Jailbird Joeys, at Mt Vernon Cemetery back in August. I do not recall if it was shared with you and well… I am really proud of it.

Check out the latest single from Draculelvis here:

This week I recommend…

Watching BLANCHE FURY (1948)

What a W-I-L-D story, shot in glorious technicolor! I am pleased as punch that Benjamin brought this motion picture into my life. He had recently watched it and, due to the glowing review, I had to check it out immediately.

Description:

The childless widow of Allan Fury bequeaths the Fury estate to her Fuller relatives, but Allan's illegitimate son who masquerades as a servant hopes to grab the estate for himself.

This is one of those films that I can not believe I had never heard of, or that no one speaks about. Watch this bizarre flick of the past here.

Over the course of the past year I have decided that my heart truly belongs in the past. My fondness for older cinema has grown exponentially in 2025 which has left me saying: Saturation down, Contrast UP! That is, unless we are speaking of technicolor (of corpse). There have been countless new films that have left me heading for the aisle. In 2026 I vow to get back to more gravedigging.

Thanks for stopping by.

Happy you are here. xx.
goodbye.
