My First Pen Show.
welcome to Sundae Matinee, a sprinkling of sweet stuff

greetings!
Please excuse the briefness of this week’s newsletter as I am about to head out the door for a MovieJawn event at Philly Film Society with Girls Like Horror.
I am trying my best this year to stick to regular updates here BIG or SMALL as I don’t want to miss the opportunity to tell you about all the rad things I am up to. Take for example: MEDITATING! I have been doing it folks and WOW! it is absolutely incredible.
My other goal is convince you to come out and see me at some movie events. Don’t have a Valentine? Well, now you do! Come on out to this triple feature that MovieJawn is hosting with Exhumed Films (!!!) and Girls Like Horror at Philadelphia Film Society! I can’t wait to catch WICKED, WICKED on the silver screen. Tickets here.

One event that I am most looking forward to is: Ambler Theater’s annual 35mm Film Festival, April 17-19. Passes just went on sale and are going fast (Alicia Malone will be there too!). Snag your 35mm Film Fest tickets and passes here. This is one of my most highly anticipated fests, along with the Nitrate Picture Show in June, passes for that go on sale Tuesday here. Come on out to the events and say hi!

what’s the latest scoop?
My First Pen Show.
On Friday I attended the Philadelphia Pen Show and had an absolute blast!
My haul from the Philly Pen Show
As a pen and pencil enthusiast, I have been wanting to attend the Philadelphia Pen Show for a few years now and was so thrilled that the timing worked out for me this year. It was so lovely to be around fellow writing instrument admirers/nerds. I found them all to be most welcoming, and ended up meeting one of the nicest gents, who was more than happy to show me the ropes. He offered such lovely advice such as never trusting a seller that “didn’t have ink on their hands” and the most courteous way to approach someone’s collection: always ask before touching and don’t forget to ask if it is a screw cap or a pull cap. Above is my modest haul from the show.

A couple of stamps I picked up
I am so excited about the treasure I came home with, especially the blue fountain Sheaffer pen. While speaking to the kind gentleman, he was guiding me on the best vintage pen to start my collection. Before attending the event, I only have procured new pens, so this is my first step into a whole new world of pens with history! Well, I could not be more pleased with the one I picked out. Apparently, this specific pen was his first vintage pen, and being that he only ever keeps thirty pens in his collection at time, he was letting this one go back into the world. We both thought it was quite fitting that this would be the pen I took home with me. I am excited for the writing adventures we will have together. With my e-mail account most recently asking if I would like help drafting an e-mail (ugh), it makes me so appreciative of my pens. For with a pen, it is I that is full control of the written word.

this week i am proud of…
MovieJawn
This past week, I hosted a Town Hall for our MovieJawn staff about the future. Despite the awful situation I am presently dealing with involving MovieJawn (don’t worry, I’ll ask for HELP when the time is right), and the terrible timeline we all find ourselves living in these days, the Town Hall reminded me that MovieJawn truly is a bright spot in my life. It has kept me laser focused on the importance that movies bring to my life and in so many ways has kept ME true to myself. I could have easily gotten lost at sea in my former corporate roles, but it was MovieJawn that kept me walking the path towards my dreams.
MovieJawn in 2016
Maybe you have seen the 2016 trend taking the internet by storm. Essentially people have been sharing pictures from ten years ago. I got in on the fun and shared the above photo of MovieJawn from 2016. At that time we were a monthly (!!!) publication, printed at home and stapled by the hand of my loving partner in crime, Benjamin. During that time, our website barely existed, print was all that mattered.
We have come a long way since those days. However, as I mentioned in my first post of the year, I am seeking to really hone in on our print magazine over the website. It felt pretty damn good to to proclaim to the staff on Thursday at the Town Hall: WE ARE A MAGAZINE WITH A WEBSITE.
At MovieJawn, print is forever.

This week I recommend…
Checking out the book, Room To Dream by David Lynch and Kristine McKenna

I started reading Room To Dream this week and have found it to be incredibly insightful and serve as a reminder to keep going. It is hard for me to explain, but I have truly felt connected to David Lynch after reading Catching The Big Fish. As I get further along in Room To Dream, I can’t help but find that we are bit of kindred spirits. His writing is inspiring me to try new things and to be open about conducting experiments… no matter how outlandish they may seem. I feel this another book that will transform me in all the best ways possible.
Thanks for stopping by.
Happy you are here. xx.
goodbye.
