I've Been Adopted!
welcome to Sundae Matinee, a sprinkling of sweet stuff

Greetings my precious creepies!
Spooky season is in full swing and well… I am feeling tired.
My adventures in September have caught up with me and this past week I did not get as much done as intended. In exchange for burning the midnight oil, I took an overdue coffin break. Prior to taking a couple of winks, I was feeling a tad lost. Fortunately as I pen this today (Saturday), I am feeling extremely well rested and ready to get back on track. The time in my bunk did me good.
Due to my hectic schedule while covering film festivals, I had stepped away from one of my rituals that I started at the onset of the grand fantastical escape: using my weekly task list.

Much like a sea captain charting the high seas, me task list helps me focus and ensures that I am staying on course. This schedule of operation assists me when I toil in my laboratory and aids in avoiding experiments bubbling over. It is my road map.
In this time of fatigue I remembered: Sometimes there are detours and that is OK. Every little step counts and, most importantly, there is always next week. Which reminds me, I will most definitely be posting that interview I told you about last week - in which I spoke with the writers from Apartment 7a - on MovieJawn.com this week. I appreciate your patience as I get back in the swing of things.
Now… on with the show!

As mentioned last week I had a fantastical trip to Austin, Texas. I made connections, networked and saw a ton of movies. Shout out to MovieJawn staffer and one of my spooky pals, Tori Potenza for introducing me to so many radical film ladies (Tori has a coven, it is magical) and new film pals. Tori encouraged me to come out of my shell a bit and for that I am truly grateful. As many do… I suffer a bit from social anxiety, but here’s the thing… when I get talking (especially about movies), look out! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. Here’s a few fantastic memories from my recent adventure to the lone star state:
Accosting Elijah Wood and gifting him the latest print issue of MovieJawn featuring Cinematic Slashers. I will never forget his face when he saw MovieJawn in my hand. He exclaimed in delight, gave me a hug and shook my sweaty creature hand while remarking that he did not care that it was moist.
FINALLY meeting the famed Editor in Chief of Fangoria (the best horror mag out there) and man about town, Phil Nobile Jr. I look forward to chatting with Phil more and hope to have coffee with him in the near future to pick his brain. He is such a swell chap and his support of MovieJawn over the years has meant so damn much to me.
Setting up a meet and greet with THE GREASY STRANGLER via instagram and being able to obtain the pink beanie that Benjamin has desperately been searching for, for years (literally years).
However, my trip would never have been as fantastical without my grand hosts and friends, Liz and Chris Locke (oh and of course, Peaches the pup).
Their home is an Old Hollywood lover’s dream (Need Proof? Liz has a Criterion Closet, watch the video Liz filmed of me selecting my fave flicks here) as is their hospitality. So much so, that I decided they are now my parents.

Finally, at the age of forty, I now have parental figures in my life. In case you may not have heard I was raised by wolves, read all about it here and here. Liz and Chris are sophisticated, experts on everything tiki, grand purveyors of queso (Chris has an entire record of various quesos in the Austin area, complete with a rating and ranking system), world travelers (they frequent the land of the mouse and other exotic places) and lovers of the arts. They truly will make wonderful adopters and there is no end to my appreciation of both of these kind souls. I can’t wait for our next adventure… hopefully it will be to the Magic Kingdom.

I may have accidentally (purposely) kept the spare key they gave me. I am sure they won’t mind me dropping in for a spell on a random Tuesday? In all seriousness though, as I was making the graphic above, I could not help but think… this would make for a thrilling horror tale? THE SPARE KEY muhahaha.
*Please note: I am now collecting spare keys to homes. If you have a home and want to share a key with me, please get in touch. Thank you kindly.

This week I am proud of… the disc review I wrote about the Kino Lorber release, Zoltan… Hound of Dracula, here for MovieJawn’s Disc Dispatch column.
September 20, marked one year that I lost my dear friend and precious pup, Li’l Foxie. While watching Zoltan I could not help but think of her and decided to commemorate her memory within this review. If you decide to read… hope you enjoy!

This week I recommend checking out… I Married a Witch at Ambler Theater Wednesday, October 9 at 7pm - details here.

My partner in crime, Benjamin and I have been setting up with MovieJawn all over town to great success! Our next stop will be at Ambler Theater this Wednesday and I could not be more thrilled as I love René Clair’s 1942 spooky classic I Married a Witch. If that was not sweet enough… it will be shown on 35mm film! If you are local to the area, please stop by and say hello. We will have the latest edition of MovieJawn available along with some other spooktacular cinematic treats.
Can’t make this event? Don’t fret. MovieJawn will be popping up in other spots later this month. Check out our MovieJawn events calendar here. Know a place we should set up at? Drop it in the comments.
Happy you are here. xx. goodbye.
Tell a friend.
