Holy Popcorn! It is Almost September.
welcome to Sundae Matinee, a sprinkling of sweet stuff

It has been a hectic week and things are not about to slow down! As I prepare for everything that is coming down the pike in September, I have been extremely mindful of what I am adding to my plate. I have been meticulously updating my task list to ensure that I clear the docket before the mayhem of film festival season takes over.
Here’s some of things I will be working on this week:
Designing & Printing the MovieJawn Gets Mini publication. The purpose of this project is to create a miniature MovieJawn zine that will be utilized for marketing purposes. The miniaturized zine will contain (4) movie reviews, advertisements for MovieJawn regarding subscribing, our Patreon and our social media platforms. The zines will be distributed to online retailers (to place in their shipments), given to cinemas and used at film related events as a business card of sorts. I will be taking this mini zine with me to the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) to share with fellow cinephiles I meet. Check out this beautiful cover design by our Art Director, Hugo Marmugi featuring the film, Bride of Frankenstein.

Sending the Fall 2024 Issue of MovieJawn to the printer. Available in glorious color! Our fall 2024 print issue celebrates cinematic slashers. From wacky weaponry and gratuitous gore to sexy slashers, this issue is sure to make you scream. It is now available for preorder here.
Packing for TIFF. My partner in crime and I leave for Toronto next week! I can’t believe it is almost here and I am so excited for this grand adventure. Of corpse packed safely in my grip will be the cape that I made with my cousin Deedee. Please excuse the crudity of this model as I did not have time to take a professional photo… it may not do the cape justice, but I simply had to share the completed design with you. More photos coming soon…

This week I am proud of… the physical media reviews I have been writing over at MovieJawn.
Check out my reviews here…
Cocaine Fiends is a physical media miracle
Bwana Devil is a delightful spectacle
The Rose Tattoo offers tremendous performances
Shirley Booth is a powerhouse in her silver screen debut, Come Back, Little Sheba

This week I recommend… checking out pro-wrestling, specifically Game Changer Wrestling (GCW). When I am feeling blue, stressed or in need of a pick-me-up, I watch some pro-wrestling. It provides for a mindless and entertaining escape, which frankly my brain more than deserved this week. Last night Benjamin and I were in Atlantic City to watch night one of GCW’s Homecoming.
Benjamin and I were both rather excited because two of our favorite wrestlers were there. Here’s Ben with his favorite wrestler Effy:
Sure pro-wrestling is absolutely ridiculous and these guys & gals are very much like a traveling circus. However, there is something truly special about what they do. This is my third GCW event in the past year and each time I have attended I simply am in awe by these performers. GCW is very much the independent circuit, which makes much of what they do DIY. For most of them, money ebbs and flows. The only reason they are doing this is out of love.
After I escaped, we attended a GCW event and I found it extremely inspiring. To see people partaking in their passions was simply magic! It filled me with happiness that I too am now able to pursue things that matter to me. Not only this, but I can finally be my entire self: a creative piece of celluloid.
As for my favorite pro-wrestler, that would be Danhausen. He’s kinda a mix of a horror host, Nosferatu and a sprinkle of awesome. Maybe one day I will have the courage to get a snap with him. For now here is this…

Well my friends. I have to jet… a pizza awaits and night two of GCW Homecoming from the comfort of my sofa.
Happy you are here. xx. goodbye.
Tell a friend.
