Back From The Dead

welcome to Sundae Matinee, a sprinkling of sweet stuff

In case you haven’t heard the news: I ESCAPED!

Yes, it’s true! I have been raised from the dead and am on the loose.

After close to seventeen years in the trenches of corporate drudgery, I have emerged from my slumber. For the first time in a long time I feel alive. If you are new here… bonjour! In my previous posts here, here and here I laid out the escape plan in detail. Now it is time to don my lab coat and get to experimenting.

From this point forward I am committed to sharing a weekly post here. I am doing this for a few reasons, however the main purpose is to have a place to share this incredible adventure that I am about to embark on. Who knows… maybe something here will help another fellow creative weirdo. It also happens to be the perfect way to stay in the loop on my projects and have an inside look into what I’m schemin’ up in my laboratory.

Monday marked my first day of my new life. Previously I shared a list of dreams with you. At a glance, it is enough to enact a panic attack given the amount of tasks that I hope to achieve. Therefore, I have decided to focus on two to three specific projects at a time. Of corpse, each of these ventures will bring with them various tasks in order to see them to fruition.

Project One: MovieJawn Expansion

Simply put: I want MovieJawn in more hands. This publication requires a lot of energy and time. My goal is to see our circulation reach 500 by next year. This will require additional marketing via social media (yep! we are going to start making videos) and for us to enter the world of wholesale. If you know an independent bookstore or cinema that would be a good fit, drop me a line here.

Project Two: Cinematic Crypt

I have not recorded an episode of my podcast since October and it is time to descend back into the crypt. For those that don’t know about the Cinematic Crypt: Each episode I travel six feet under and pry open the coffin of one of my favorite Hollywood corpses and perform a post-watch examination of one their forgotten films.

During my contemplation period prior to the grand fantastical escape, I realized how much I truly love making my podcast. The show allows me to explore subjects that inspire me and it brings me such joy to share what I learn with others. Therefore, I want to get my recording schedule back on track. Additionally, I have plans to launch a patreon which will include ways for listeners to support the show, access to a web series in which I will bring my horror host persona Batzina Belfry to life, a crypt club and much more. My goal is to launch the patreon by the fall.

Project Three: Writing

In February I had stopped writing due to stress and exhaustion. I aim to get back to a writing routine. First step is penning film reviews for MovieJawn. This week I managed to write four film reviews and am pleased as punch to be back. Once I get back in the habit, my next move will be to start script writing. Stay tuned!

Here is a piece of writing I am proud of this week. Each week, I will share something I wrote or created that I want you to know about. Consume and enjoy.

Weekly I will serve up a recommendation of sorts. This could be a book, record or film… something to make life a bit sweeter. This week I suggest the film I Saw The TV Glow, which is now playing in cinemas.

I love movies that inspire conversation and require the use of the brain. Earlier this week my partner in crime and I had the opportunity to see this flick and had a lovely conversation afterwards. The screenplay is most excellent and I feel it can speak to so many types of people. Each of us will have our own takeaways. For me, it made me delighted about the moment I find myself in and that I took the leap to become a dabbler extraordinaire. To find my true self: I am a weirdo and am meant to do grandiose creative things. Happy you are here. xxgoodbye.
